Thrifty Summer Entertainment for the Kids

Many schools are finishing up this week and with that often comes the question of what to do all summer. Some parents have their kids in multiple camps but others of us are left with the question of how to keep the summer from a litany of “what can I do? I’m bored.”

Regal has their “Summer Movie Express”.  Select theaters will play G and PG rated movies every Tuesday and Wednesday on a first come, first served basis for $1 per person!!!  I admit, I will miss the FREE movie of other years,  however, $1 isn’t bad either.  See this link for participating theaters-  $1 movies.

AMF has their “kids Bowl Free” Program.  You do need to register ahead of time and bring in the coupons they email you to take advantage of the deal. However, it is really easy.  Shoe rental may still apply.  Register here.

If  you are a member of the YMCA, take advantage of the programs they have to offer – especially on the hottest days. Put the kids in the activity Zone and go get some peace and quite as you do something good for your body.  Maybe check out the pool.

Check your local library. They have tons of things going on year round and at the very least they usually have a story time. Some even do a craft along with story time.

Call up a friend and meet at a local park. Bring plenty of water and some snacks. Visit while the kids (hopefully) entertain themselves.

Check out a state park near you. For a low price you can usually get entry for the day and hike, swim, oat, picnic, and sometimes they have educational nature classes.

Have a year membership to gardens, museums, or the zoo? Now is a great time to use those indoor memberships!!!

At home you can google homemade play dough, set a vinyl tablecloth on the porch and let them have at it. Sweep it up and throw it away at the end. You could also make edible playdough.

What are some things you do with your kids for summer entertainment?
