“Is it really hummus” can be made in several easy steps.
You need:
1 16 ounce bag of garbanzo beans
6 cups water
Cook the beans in your crock pot on high for 4-6 hours, until soft.
Cool.
Put 2 cups of beans in the food processor/food chopper or blender if need be.
Add 1 -2 cloves diced garlic. If you love garlic add 2. If not, go with 1 small clove OR use roasted garlic.
2 teaspoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil
1 pinch salt
Process until all ingredients are a fine consistency and serve.
Cook’s note: We stay away from sesame products because we were told kids with nut allergies are more likely to be allergic to sesame seeds and R. had a reaction to what could only be assumed was sesame seeds. We just don’t know. We use them but tend to keep consumption lower than using tahini paste. We also tried using sunflower paste instead and just didn’t care for it. This time i thought I would try leaving that ingredient/substitute out all together and see what happened. I love it.
The rest of the cooked beans are going in the freezer and will be pulled out when I want fresh hummus again. Which means as soon as this batch is gone. It won’t be long.
