Keeping it real…..prepare to be amazed or not.
Tonight I went to an event at Ben FM (95.7 in Philly). I wanted so badly to chicken out because, well, I didn’t know if I knew anyone who would be there. I went. I went for my girl, Joey Fortman, who was planning to be there. However, that superstar had a jam packed day and can only get there as quickly as the train and traffic will allow. She was there, never fear. Superstar is actually the wrong word. She is like Super Woman Mama Star. She is glamour and real all at once. I love it.
I hate driving into the city or anywhere NEAR the city. I see Route 1 to Philly and I cringe. I have a ginormous headache and then I think 4 PM rush hour and cringe even more. It is just so not my thing. But I went. I totally did it and I’m keeping it real. I didn’t really know anyone. Super awkward. I do fine in social settings once I get the feel of things but this was just not my element. I’m sure it showed because I really stink at anything poker face.
But then it got fun. I met a superstar. I mean, another superstar. My kids were wow’ed. I knew they would be. I met the “girl” (really, she’s a lady but that just didn’t sound right in my brain) who does commercials. Um yeah. I know. She was super sweet and super real and FUN. I had a great conversation with her and she was kind enough to show me what she does, how it works behind the scenes. She has a soundproof room(at work). Yeah, only like, in my dreams will I ever have that. And even cooler, she recorded my most favoritest commercial ever – The Philadelphia Zoo Lorax commercial. It sounds like her. She really did it!! My kids think I am the luckiest person around. So thank you Kristen for making me finally be the COOLEST MOM EVER!
My second coolest thing was recording a 10 second spot for radio – in the studio – in front of one of those huge microphones. Yeah, cool.
Here’s the reality and the glamour of it all. You don’t have to be a big name to me. You just need to be real. If you are real, you are the biggest superstar in my book. So yes, I am star struck over the girl who makes the commercials (and apparently can’t cook). Girl, come visit me. I’ll teach you to cook. My kitchen is open any day.
