This weekend we had a mini-vacation. Actually, we were gone Friday morning through Saturday evening which is why it has been rather quiet around here. This weekend we made a few event stops in New Jersey and had quite a bit of rainy day fun.

This weekend we took a mini vacation to New Jersey. First up was a mid-day blogger event in Belmar, New Jersey to try out D6 Sports new Surf Skimmer. Belmar is a cute town approximately 1 hour north of Long Beach Island/Manahawkin/Tuckerton area. It, of course, rained that day – torrential downpours with reports of up to 5 inches of rain happening in parts of New Jersey.

That didn’t stop us from having fun though. After a nice lunch, compliments of D’Jais, we got ready to hit the beach only to be stopped by a “great white” warning.  It turned out to be a false alarm and we headed out to the ocean with D6 and the Surf Skimmer.  I took the umbrella, since it matched quite nicely with my outfit, and the kids had a blast getting the hang of how the Surf Skimmer worked. I have to say, pretty cool stuff. The kids looked pretty funny in the process of trying to get the hang of the surf skimmer but eventually figured it out.

Belmar’s Boardwalk was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy but they have already rebuilt it and it looks gorgeous. With moms in mind they added 4 free playgrounds around the beach and boast the cleanest bathrooms along the shore. They are also adding showers, another mom favorite so kids can get cleaned up and changed before leaving the beach.

Ahoy Mateys, Sea Pirate Campground is fun for all

From there we headed toward Tuckerton and Sea-Pirate Campground, where we were TENT camping for the night. Yeah, uh-huh. In the middle of hour 5 of pouring rain I called and was able to upgrade to a small cabin, thank-you-very-much. Good thing because as much more rain as we got that night we probably would have floated into the Fish Pond. We loved our stay at Sea Pirate Campground and cannot wait to go again.

Saturday morning’s early light revealed clear skies with promise of a sunny day ahead. Good thing sine we were headed to Tuckerton Seaport for their Pirates and Privateer Festival.

The kids had fun walking the plank, climbing the lighthouse, watching a sword fight and making pirate crafts.  I wish the pirates were a bit more kid friendly but all in all we had a great day.

With tired kids loaded up, we started our trip home. That wasn’t the end of our day though…..the kids went to my parents and we had a night out on East Passyunk Avenue, celebrating Aversa PR’s first office Grand Opening.  That post is for another day.

Meanwhile, join our vacation conversations on Facebook today.

  1. Good grief, we were SO exhausted after the Pirate adventure, the kids slept in the car ride back! Passayunk sounds fun, but I would have been asleep on the curb, lol…
