If you are like me you read that and said “What the, what?” Where did that term come from anyway? The grammar freak in me says it makes no sense. Anyway, back on track Heather, back on track.
I had the opportunity to try a T-Fal Actifry, which you-still-have-no-idea-what-that-means out. An Actifry is a small appliance that fries food using very little oil. The end result is healthier fried food with less mess and in most cases, done quickly.
Here’s what I like. I received this machine Friday (yes, 1 week ago). I have already used it to make granola in less than half the time it usually takes me in the oven, I have made homemade french fries that were pretty close to the best I ever had, I made a delicious vegetable stirfry with EGGPLANT that my whole family actually ate, and I fried beef in it TWICE. The second time I fried beef I then added cooked rice, sauce, and cheese to combine and melt and had dinner on the table 35 minutes after I started cooking the rice.
How does this “thing” work? It has a patented technology of pulsed heat that combined with a rotating paddle cooks your food in no time. Quick, easy, no hassle, no mess. The pan part of the Actifry is covered in a non stick ceramic so even if you can’t utilize the fact that it is dish washer safe, it washes up in less than a minute. If you are lucky and have a dishwasher, you can put the lid, pan, and paddle into the dishwasher for even easier clean up. (Someday I will have one of those wonderful pieces of equipment.)
My Actifry came with a cookbook but you aren’t stuck with just the recipes in it – explore, use your favorite recipe, have fun with it – but definitely try the recipes. They are yummy! It also comes with the spoon for the oil – every recipes calls for little or no oil so you can make your favorite food with less. Our french fries were delicious but even better, 2# of french fries only called for ONE tablespoon of oil. So much healthier than deep fried.
I love putting my food in, setting the timer, and walking away. I’m a busy mom – what mom isn’t? Since it stirs itself I can go do something else until I hear the timer go off.
