Last weekend we got to go see Rapunzel at the Players Club of Swarthmore. My lovely Aunt Loretta is in it as Witch Sauerkraut and it was so fun to finally get to see one of the many plays she has been in.

Rapunzel is smartly done with the best actor(ress) being, of course, my aunt. She is amazing and Witch Sauerkraut was the perfect role for her. No, I’m not saying anything bad about her. If you knew her in real life you would know what I mean. She added flare to it that no one else could add. The actors and actresses were definitely in different stages of their acting “careers” but all were so fun to watch. I won’t critique every one. I will leave the spotlight on my aunt, because, well, I can. The costumes and set were whimsical and catchy – kept simple for the kids, which is PERFECT. Instead of overwhelming them it draws them in.  The length was perfect, around 45 minutes. The interaction with the audience was fun and is perfect for kids who, of course, want to be involved. It also helps them be quiet when they need to be since they get chances to become part of it. It was so good there were no noisy and fussy children. Even 2 year olds were quietly glued, except for the first moment someone’s mama came onto stage, and seriously, that was just cute.

My daughter was in love with the princess from beginning to end. My 6 year old who is scared of everything took a little bit to warm up but once he got into it I could see him trying to hide his smile and laugh. My 8 year old tried to play cool and bored since his “almost twin” cousin was there but afterward he said he really enjoyed it.
