We’re exploring a new side of Philly this week. With kids or without kids, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University has something big and amazing for YOU. We were invited to their media preview of  the new Birds of Paradise Exhibit, which I wrote about here.  When you are out and about or road tripping with kids, it is always great to see what a city has to offer. The Academy of Natural Sciences is definitely a great place to stop to stretch those legs or have a fun day trip out.

Let me start with the set up. I love the way the Academy of Natural Sciences is set up. It reminded me a little of the Smithsonian Museum, with different themes for each room. As we walked into the “safari” we were slightly confused by the very real mummy guarding the entrance though. I think my kids will pass on an Egyptian Exhibit. Fascination isn’t the right word for their reaction.

The Academy of Natural Sciences is perfect for all ages with plenty of space, a variety of age appropriate exhibits, hands on activities for kids, and areas to sit. They also have a cafe if you need a quick lunch or snack.

I loved that the staff is helpful and informative. They gladly would stop to help or answer any questions, especially taking time to listen to kids’ questions and explain in simple language what they were looking at or wondering.
