Oatmeal is a hearty and filling breakfast that doesn’t cost much money. In fact, homemade oatmeal is perfect for a frugal meal planning budget. With simple add-ins like these 40 oatmeal combinations, you can take oatmeal to new levels without a lot of added expense.
Oatmeal is also a perfect beginner recipe to teach kids to cook. Does your child know how to make oatmeal? No, I don’t mean dump a package of instant oats in a bowl, add water, and microwave. I mean, do they know how to take rolled oats and cook them on the stove to make oatmeal? Those little packets have nothing on real homemade oatmeal in terms of nutrition and flavor.
Of course, you will want to supervise your child using a hot stove, but this recipe is super easy to teach any child and is great math practice on top of it.
