Odds are you’re reading this because you’re curious about how the Misfits Market subscription box works and if it’s right for you. That used to be me so I thought I’d share my personal Misfits Market review. Read on for what you need to know, including a discount code. Note: I purchased this myself; not a company-sponsored review.
I jumped into the world of produce subscription boxes slowly. First, we don’t have access to many produce subscription boxes here in New Hampshire. Also, I love to visit the produce department (favorite section of the store besides the ice cream cooler, ha!) and select my own produce. There’s something about all those bright colors. Okay, and my perfectionist self wants to pick out the perfect size and quality fruits and vegetables. Here’s my scoop on Misfits Market subscription boxes.
I am not paid to write about Misfits Market. However, if you sign up and use this code: COOKWME-WA1VWX, you save 25% on your first order and I get a 25% discount on my next box. Per their website, due to an influx in sales you may be added to a waitlist for your first box.
What is Misfits Market?
So, perhaps you stumbled across this article by chance and you’re not really sure what I’m talking about. Misfits Market is a produce subscription service that works with growers (farmers) located across North and South America to buy imperfect, ugly, or otherwise unwanted produce. They then sell it to you and me via their website. The goal of produce subscription services like this is to limit food waste by selling products that would otherwise not make the cut for grocery store produce departments.
Misfits Market pays workers to package produce boxes and ship them out via overnight shipping to your house and directly to your doorstep. Yes, I’m saying you can totally skip the grocery store and still get fresh delicious produce. But there are quirks. Are they worth it? I’ll let you be the judge of that after reading my Misfits Market review and the important details that can impact you – delivery areas, payment options, and yes, whether you can or cannot pick your produce.
Can I pick the kinds of produce I get?
Currently customers residing in certain areas can choose the produce in their box. The selection is based on a first come, first serve basis and you may not always get what you selected. It also depends on which delivery date you choose. In my experience, I wasn’t able to customize my first order but have been since then as long as I don’t choose a Tuesday delivery date. My sister lives in Pennsylvania and has not been able to select her own produce. I’m not sure if that is true for all of PA or not.
One of the things I like about Misfits Market is that they often have produce I wouldn’t generally think to buy at the store. This gets me thinking creatively and trying new things. They also have a marketplace where you can select additional special buys (additional cost) like specialty chocolates, mushrooms, dried beans, etc. You never know what will be available. FYI, Taza Chocolate Pumpkin Seed Chocolate Bark is pretty epic.
Is all the produce organic?
Yes, all the produce is organic and non-GMO.
Does this subscription save money?
The savings estimates Misfits quotes are 25-40% below grocery store costs. I’m not able to speak to this from experience simply because I buy limited organic produce in the grocery store so I don’t have a general price sheet to compare. Most times I receive produce that is in great or satisfactory condition and there have only been a couple times where some produce went bad before I could use it.
I like to choose items I wouldn’t usually buy at the store due to their cost or to try something new (super bummed I missed out on purple Brussels sprouts the other week!!) I do feel like I spend fair money for the value though.

How much does it cost?
You can choose from 2 different sized boxes. I’ll break that down below. Shipping costs $4.50 except to Florida and Tennessee, where it is $5.50.
The Mischief Box
This box costs $22 +shipping and includes approximately 12 types of produce. The estimate is that it provides enough produce or 1-2 people for a week, depending how much produce you eat.
The Madness Box
This box costs $39+shipping and includes approximately 14 types of produce and is the box I get. The estimate is it will provide enough produce to feed 3-5 people or a week. You can get an idea of how much produce is in this box in the pictures in this post and can view some of my unboxing videos on Instagram in IGTV as well.
What form of payment do they accept?
They accept all major credit cards. I’m disappointed that they do not accept SNAP/EBT at this time but usually this is a limitation that is dictated by laws. However, they stated they are working on this and hope to accept SNAP/EBT in the future.
Where are they located?
Because Misfits Market is a subscription produce delivery service they don’t have locations you can visit. See below for their delivery area.
Where do they deliver?
Misfits Market currently delivers to these states: Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Ohio, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. If you live in another state you can join the waitlist to be notified when they start delivering to your area.
How often do you get a produce box delivered?
You can select weekly or every other week deliveries. Currently the other week option works best for our budget as I buy quite a bit of produce to go alongside what comes in our box such as more carrots, celery, potatoes, carrots, apples, oranges, lettuce if I don’t get it in the box, tomatoes, etc.
You can also pause or skip deliveries as needed.
With all this information, what’s the verdict? Should you order a Misfits Market box?
I can’t decide that for you. I do believe the fact that I’ve been ordering from them for 2 months now and continue to do so speaks for itself. You alone know your shopping habits, budget, and if this type of subscription service will work for your lifestyle.
In the current environment it’s been helpful knowing I can still get fresh produce without having to run to the store. The downside is that they’ve been swamped with orders and 2 weeks ago my box was first delayed then canceled as a result. However, in unprecedented times where we need to rethink what food safety looks like and increase health precautions, things like this can be expected.
