It’s that time of year when I hear the sentiment “What on earth am I going to do with my kids home for several weeks?” I laugh a little. You see, they aren’t really ASKING me but generally neither are they thinking of the fact that I have my children home with me every single day. We won’t go into the comments that want to escape instead we will go into a nice inexpensive little craft project. More for the girls but get creative and I bet you can figure out something for the boys too unless they like making jewelry. Make the macaroni one day and the craft the next.
Supplies:
Elbow macaroni
Food coloring
Rubbing alcohol
Newspaper
Baggies
Yarn
For each color you will need a separate baggie. Mix 10 drops food coloring and 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol in a baggie. Add 1-2 cup dry macaroni. Seal the bag, shake it all around and lay it flat (on the newspaper.) repeat for every color you wish to make. After about 2 hours, flip the bag over and let sit another 1-2 hours. Drain and spread the macaroni over the newspaper to dry overnight.
The next day let them make their own creations.
The colored macaroni can also be used to build whatever their imaginations come up with or glued to paper for a mural.
