Ever have something be so easy you were embarrassed you hadn’t tried it sooner? Yeah, that’s me with simple syrup. For the longest time I wouldn’t make recipes that called for simple syrup because it was “just one more thing to do” and I didn’t know how to make it. Now my summer wouldn’t be the same without a bottle in my refrigerator. Since I have several recipes that call for it, like this delicious homemade Cherry Limeade recipe, I though I would share how to make simple syrup. First, I have a secret for you……
…IT’S SIMPLE. Who knew?!?!
Simple Syrup is made of two ingredients you likely already have – sugar and water. As you see my simple syrup isn’t clear like most would be. I use raw organic sugar and it retains that molassesy color. You are perfectly fine to use white sugar if you like. I just prefer the warmth of raw sugar and the fact that it is slightly less processed.
Simple Syrup
- Mix equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently.
- Once sugar is dissolved, bring to a boil.
- Move off burner and cool.
- Refrigerate up to several weeks.
Next up? I want to try some simple syrup infusions. You in?
