I have to say that I believe the resurgence of fast food chicken fries hasn’t been so great. I tasted them. I remember I use to love chicken fries. I’m not sure how much the quality and recipe changed in the last 6 or 7 years since I had them but yuck! They were not so good. In fact, after having homemade chicken fries I am not sure how those drive thru chicken fries can qualify as chicken at all. Plus the amount of fat and sodium they held was not so pleasant. Homemade chicken fries are fast, easy, and most of all, healthy.
I used as the base of my breading. Gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free, and dairy-free, they are the perfect breading medium, adding a bit of crunch and a lot of flavor without bothering most allergies or intolerances. The fact that they are Non-GMO verified is the icing on the proverbial cake, or rather, breading on the chicken. They are quite simple to pull together and are perfect for kids and adults alike. Whether they are a main entree or a party appetizer, everyone will love them.
I started with boneless skinless chicken breast, and cut it into 1/4 inch thick strips, skipping the traditional egg batter and breading the strips with sweet potato chips and a simple blend of staple herbs and spices that I put in the food processor until it was a fine crumb mixture. You could totally make these ahead of time and freeze them to reheat for an even quicker meal that would fit nicely into these fast food meals from the grocery store. With just a little olive oil on the pan so they don’t stick, these baked chicken fries hit the spot without any one feeling that junky post fast food feeling.

I served our chicken fries with a homemade honey mustard dipping sauce but this Avocado Ranch Dressing is another favorite. What’s your favorite dipping sauce? How would you serve up ?
What a great recipe Heather! LOOOVE the Sweet Potato chips for coating! You are a genius! YUM! 😀
I love how you can make this without deep frying them. I love making chicken fingers, just hate the mess of deep frying. This sounds like a great dinner idea!
These look really yummy and I can’t wait to try them. I think my kids are going to LOVE them, thanks!
Thank you. I bet YOU will love them too.
This seems super easy– pinning so I can try it, too–thanks!
Unbelievably easy!
These look so good, my kids would probably really like them.
They likely will. So simple and fun. Let me know if you try them.
I purposely don’t have a fryer but I love that these look fried but are healthier!
Wow! These are super easy! Chicken fries always seem time-consuming when my dh makes them.
He likely egg and batters them which is a much lengthier process but still tastes so yummy.
Did you say dairy free and chicken? You’ve got me. I’m pinning this so I can have a go at making some!
Why yes, yes I did. 🙂
