It’s that time of year when breads and desserts abound everywhere, many of them full of gluten. I would be very sad if I needed to go gluten-free. It’s just a fact of life that I love my breads and pastries. One thing I have heard from friends and from reading articles online is that Thanksgiving can be a tough time for people who are gluten-free. With that in mind, I had a conversation with my friends over at Whole Foods Devon. I decided to create a gluten-free menu with foods that are yummy and safe for those who are gluten-free to enjoy. However, I don’t want to just give you a list of gluten-free foods I have never tasted before. How authentic would that be? We perused the store to find some gluten-free foods for me to try so I can give you the scoop on products I would actually use to make a gluten-free Thanksgiving menu tasty.
Gluten-free Thanksgiving Menu
Glutino Cornbread Stuffing – This stuffing mix does come in a box but it is the best gluten-free stuffing I have ever eaten. I didn’t use it as is but made this scrumptious Sausage and Cranberry Cornbread Stuffing that made the whole family happy.
Pacifico Organic Free Range Chicken Broth – I know there are many broths that have gluten added. Why that is necessary, I don’t know. Pacifico has a delicious chicken broth that is not only organic but gluten-free and tastes great. I used it in my Sausage and Cranberry Stuffing and my homemade gluten-free Chicken and Gravy. You could use cornstarch to thicken it for a perfect gravy.
Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-free All-Purpose Flour – I love baking with this product whenever I need a gluten-free baked good. It converts on a 1:1 ratio which takes the guess work out of gluten-free baking. It has a slightly different taste but still gives a delicious baked good.
Pumpkin Puree – Here are some great gluten-free pumpkin recipes – Pumpkin White Chocolate Mousse (skip the tart) and Pumpkin Brie Dip. I did not get the opportunity to try out the gluten-free pie crust as they were out of it but they do carry one to make pie making easy.
Cranberry Sauce – Buy your cranberries fresh and make this yummy orange cranberry sauce
Mashed Potatoes – Thankfully potatoes are gluten-free already but make this Amish Mashed Potato recipe for a truly amazing potato side dish this Thanksgiving.
Green Bean Casserole – I have never made a gluten-free green bean casserole but this one from Betty Crocker looks good.
Sweet Potatoes – I love my sweet potatoes and this recipe is healthy and absolutely delicious. Who needs marshmallows on top? If you still need those marshmallows, Whole Foods has gluten-free kosher marshmallows that fit the bill.
Turkey – The king of the table, turkey absolutely must be on my table. Here are great tips for choosing and making your turkey fantastic and here is my favorite turkey recipe.
What’s your favorite Thanksgiving side dish?
