Low on money? There are still many adventures and outings you can take even on a tight budget this summer. Check out these 14 free or frugal fun things to do with kids in summer.

1. Have a credit card? See what deals they offer? Some partner with state parks to offer free or reduced entry on certain days.
2. Check out Regal Theater’s $1 Movies for Summer Days
3. Gather up a few friends and get a group discount to many parks and and attractions.
4. Explore a wildlife sanctuary or bird observatory.
5. Do the math. A yearly membership may be the same cost as 1 trip for your family. Consider parking costs, etc. Also see if your library has a museum pass program like ours does.
6. Pack a lunch and drinks! You’ll save a fortune right there.
7. Check local businesses and fast food restaurants for local attraction discount coupons. You can easily save $20 per ticket to many amusement parks this way.
8. Play date and picnic at the park – It’s free and fun with friends.
9. Buy an inexpensive slip and slide, sprinkler, or small pool and have fun in your back yard.
10. Check out 4-H camps. They are often lower cost and offer many fun programs.
11. A. C. Moore offers summer crafts on Wednesdays for just a few $$.
12. Pull out the flour and KoolAid packs and make some good old fashioned homemade play dough. Stick the kids out on the porch with a vinyl tablecloth and keep that mess outside.
13. Grow a garden – big or small – there is so much learning and fun to be had when you grow your own produce.
14. Have a membership to a local zoo or aquarium? Check out their reciprocal program. Take a day trip and visit another one for a lower cost.
