There’s nothing better than an opportunity for parents to be carefree and fun with their kids and a family trip to an amusement park unlocks that.
Our family was hosted for a media day filled with family fun at Six Flags New England. It was my decision to write about our day.
HARLEY QUINN™ Spinsanity Debuts at Six Flags New England
When we visit an amusement park my thoughts don’t usually go to “What superheros will we meet?” But how can it not when we’re invited to Six Flags New England for the debut of HARLEY QUINN™ Spinsanity?
We headed out bright and early, tent and ingredients for Persian Chicken and Vegetable Kebabs and s’mores packed for a night of camping after our day at Six Flags New England. We log a lot of hours road tripping so the kids were excited to hear this was a short 2.25-hour ride from Manchester, NH.
See the full ride in motion here.
It was a bright clear morning, showing so much promise for a gorgeous (hot) early summer day at the park. We got there a little early even with a bit of traffic and slathered on the sunscreen….well, most of *us* did. Somehow I did not. Don’t even ask what my thought process was there. (Of course, I burned).
After we registered for media day we entered the park and headed straight for the bathrooms. Of course. Isn’t that the best part of getting somewhere? EVERYONE has to go to the bathroom. Thank goodness they have signs directing you to them.
After a short presentation, the ride was set to go on a debut ride….without the kids or me. If you love thrill rides that swing you through the air at staggering rates of speed, you are going to LOVE this ride. Personally speaking, several us suffer from motion sickness with fast steep drops and we tried a ride like this 2 years ago.
It didn’t go too well and it’s still too fresh in our memories – 70 miles an hour. 15 stories in the air. Hurtling down. Then up. Then back down. I still kinda regret not going for it and getting a reverse perspective video shot by a professional crew. But too late for that.
We saw Harley Quinn and the Joker and Batman….and BATMAN! My daughter L-O-V-E-S Batman (and Flash), and while she looked a little starstruck over both she says she “doesn’t get her picture taken with strangers.” Who can argue with that? I just loved seeing the look of awe on her face.
Family Fun at Six Flags New England
We had fun exploring the park and for the most part it’s fairly easy to navigate without having to criss-cross back and forth or backtrack down dead ends. While there was a section of young kids rides, it was nice to see a mix of rides throughout the park so you didn’t have to hit all the spinning rides at once or have some sit bored while the thrill seekers rode the roller coasters.
From tea cups to coasters and carousels to a white-water rafting ride, most ages are sure to enjoy a day at the park. If you have a variety of ages in your family I recommend planning ahead and looking at height requirements for the rides then mixing them up a bit so everyone is happy.
There will be plenty of opportunity to get photos of your day, just don’t forget to put mom in the picture!
And yes, even on the hottest days there will be plenty of fun in the park. Make sure you check out the waterpark. We didn’t get to visit Hurricane Harbor Waterpark, but bring your suits and beach towels. It’s up and running for the summer.
TIP: Arrive early and hit the most popular rides before the park gets super busy. You can also buy Flash Pass and bypass many lines.
Food at Six Flags New England
We were treated to sliders, fries, and onion rings for media day and we all agreed they weren’t bad, but if you’re in the mood for something more there is a variety of options to choose from, including Asian and Italian foods. Don’t forget to save room for dessert. After all, what trip to the amusement park would be complete without some ice cream?
See here for all food options, dining passes, and gluten-free options.
Lodging Near Six Flags New England
If you’re planning to visit the park for more than one day, or simply see more things in the area, there are hotels within easy driving distance. We opted to tent camp and had trouble finding many camping areas in the vicinity. The closest one was about 24 minutes west, which is where we chose to stay.
TIP: Before getting your Six Flags tickets, see if the place you stay offers discounted tickets, like Sodom Mountain campground does. Here’s a list of hotels (and the campground) where you can buy packages.
Do you have any recommendations for spending a day at the park as far as where to store swim stuff, sun screen, and water? Can you shed any light on what you’re allowed to bring on rides? Did you carry a bag with you? If so, what kind? Planning a trip with 3 friends and we’re all in our 30s. The thought of being without a comb after the water park is scary. How did you manage getting in the park with swimsuits and towels in tow? It’s been forever since I went to a six flags so I feel like I have no idea what to expect!
Hi Faith! There are lockers at Six Flags, including some conveniently located at the waterpark. My suggestion is to rent one of them for the day. As for what you are allowed to bring on rides, it really depends what ride you are on so I’m afraid I’m not much help there. We didn’t take a bag with us but this link should help answer additional questions you have: https://www.sixflags.com/newengland/plan-your-visit.
