DIY: Gourmet Table Syrup

We stopped buying store bought pancake syrup about 9 months ago. First it was because I couldn’t find a good deal. Then it was because I looked at the bottle and decided I didn’t want the high fructose corn syrup slathered all over my homemade pancakes.

Enter Gourmet Make Your Own Syrup. Honestly, it is so easy, well, anyone can do it.

Put equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan and cook until boiling. Boil for a few minutes and turn to simmer until ready to use it or turn off and let sit. It really isn’t a picky recipe.

Not gourmet? Ok, here’s my tip – add vanilla, maple flavoring, cinnamon or fruit to it at the beginning. We have had pear syrup, blueberry syrup, apple syrup, cinnamon, maple, strawberry. I think my favorite was the pear syrup.

Plus, if you are like me and have almost passed out at the sight of maple syrup prices, you need a thrifty substitute.  It costs pennies to make a fresh yummy batch of syrup.
