If you know me at all you know I do love my Starbucks chai – non fat, no water please! I forced myself not to stop there on the way home, and even closer to home, forced myself not to stop at Dunkin Donuts for a substitute decaf blueberry coffee with cream.
I searched how to make my own chai and decided to try one that jumped out to me simply because I actually have the type of tea they used. You can buy it on Amazon here. Stores tend to carry a limited selection so I can’t tell you which store I picked mine up in but I am really happy that the one I have is decaf! Caffeine and I aren’t always friends.
The recipe I found suggested using water and adding cream but I decided to go the Starbucks route and used fat free milk.
I put approximately 12 oz. fat free milk in a saucepan on medium and threw in 2 tea bags. I brought it to an “almost boil” and turned it down to simmer.
I sprinkled in 1 tablespoon of raw sugar (any sugar is fine) and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
I turned it off and let it steep for 5 minutes longer and served.
Very easy, super cheap, and I still got my chai. Better yet it was really yummy!
