This Kentucky Mule isn’t a traditional cocktail recipe. The smooth sweetness of blood orange pairs well with the bite of ginger beer and bourbon oak notes.
Bright, crisp lemon and lime are the usual go-to citrus options but when blood oranges are in season that’s my citrus of choice. Blood Orange Kentucky Mules have a more subtle flavor than your traditional lime or lemon mule. Plus, blood oranges are absolutely gorgeous.
So what does one do when they get deal on blood oranges? Why, make all the recipes. But first, a cocktail. My first thought was to make a Moscow Mule but I prefer bourbon to vodka so I made it a Kentucky Mule instead. Truth be told, I planned to publish an article with the ins and outs of oven roasted veggies tonight, including just why they taste so good, but cocktail recipes are high in demand right now.
On my site, the most popular recipes are this Adult Whipped Chocolate Milk and the always popular Strawberry Piña Colada so I went with a Blood Orange Kentucky Mule instead. Pretty sure we can all use a bit of relaxing weekend time right about now. So let’s skip the chit chat and mix up a cocktail.
