24 Frugal Valentine Date Ideas for Year ‘Round
I don’t love January and I have found one way to cope is by looking forward to Valentine’s Day. We have date night and celebrate love and our marriage throughout the year but to make it through bitterly cold and dreary January, I anticipate Valentine’s Day. I don’t care about the cards but I do care about the food. Each year I plan a Valentine’s Day menu so we can skip the craze of restaurants and enjoy an evening at home. This year I have a Valentine’s giveaway from Whole Foods to go with my Valentine’s Day menu.
I collaborated with Whole Foods on ways they make Valentine’s Day a success for their customers while holding to their local and sustainable business model. We had a lovely evening with beer and chocolate pairings (YES! BEER!) and we are finishing it off with a fabulous giveaway for you – chocolate, cheese, and a gift card to Whole Foods. What’s not to love?
But first we have our easy Valentine’s Day menu for you. We gave this one a test run last night so I can guarantee it is fantastic and easy. Plus it is color themed for that day of love. Okay, so cheesy but that’s just how it worked out this time. I just pretend to have it all marvelously planned out that way.
I know that the last thing I want to do is have a stressful day of cooking for a nice relaxing special dinner with my husband. That’s why the allure to go out and let someone else do the work can be so strong. We have just found that when we end up going out on Valentine’s Day everything is overpriced, takes forever, and is loud. Nothing says romantic like paying out an arm and a leg, eating food that may or may not be just right, and dealing with noise all around you. To solve that I craft easy meals that still taste amazing for our Valentine’s Day dinner.
An Easy Valentine’s Day Menu
Chicken Thighs Caramelized in Red Wine
Roasted Red Potatoes
Mini Mocha Cakes with Raspberry Cream Cheese Frosting
A Whole Foods Valentine’s Day Giveaway
If you are looking for a calm evening at home for Valentine’s Day you can get all your Valentine’s date needs right there. Well, unless you want some of your local chocolatier’s to-die-for salted caramel or beer truffles. Oh Éclat, how I love thee. Will you be my Valentine?
And cheese, don’t you already know my love for cheese? Cabot is one of my go to everyday cheddar favorites, and who doesn’t love to be seriously sharp? My Valentine’s Day menu doesn’t include Cabot but my appetizer will.
For the decor we are making it easy. Roses might seem a bit cliche but I am pulling out my favorite table and a bottle of Gloria Ferrer Sparkling wine for the evening. The perfect backdrop are Whole Foods Whole Trade Roses. You can get 2 dozen roses for $24.99 through February 14, 2015 and know that a portion of the proceeds go back to the community the flowers are grown in and that the employees of these companies are paid fair wages.
Éclat and Cabot will be part of the giveaway prize, along with a $200 gift card so you can get anything your heart desires at Whole Foods.
