12 years is an awfully long time. Well, not really. Someday I hope to be looking back and saying 50 years has been a fabulously wonderfully long time. I still remember my grandparents’ 50th anniversary celebration. I was in awe. Like, how could someone be old enough to be married FIFTY years? That would mean they had to be at least SEVENTY. I am so glad I have that memory of my grandparents. They lived and loved for so many years TOGETHER. I remember them getting along and disagreeing but the only lasting impression I ever got was that they LOVED. For some reason I have been thinking of them often this week, but this memory has nothing to do with an anniversary dinner, unless I share that their 50th anniversary was a picnic where I don’t remember any of the food, just badminton and a white tent with lots of loud and fun cousins in my aunt’s back yard.

Back to anniversary dinners. For 12 years you would think I would have some elaborate dinner out plans but quite honestly, I didn’t plan that far. I am sure we will since we are going away overnight for the first time in at least a year but what we have been talking about is dinner at home. A dinner where no waiter interrupts, where we can laugh as loud as we want, where dinner is always cooked just the way we like it.

So, for one night out we will eat somewhere fancy. The actual night of our anniversary we will eat at home.

reflections on marriage and an anniversary dinner

My husband’s pick

Red Miso Salmon

Roasted red potatoes

Salad – a super delicious one he didn’t have to make with Balsamic Dressing

My pick

Black and Blue Steak & scallops

Roasted red potatoes

Salad – apparently a super delicious salad that I am making, also with Balsamic Dressing

Dessert

Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies with a side of vanilla bean ice cream – my husband’s choice. Victory is mine! I have turned my cheesecake hating husband into an almost cheesecake eater.

Sunday evening we will finish off our weekend long anniversary celebration with dinner at home – loud and relaxed. The perfect ending to the weekend. The perfect start to a new year of marriage.
