A blogger friend set up a Girls’ Night Out with A. C. Moore the other week. I am so not a crafter. It started all the way back in first grade when I needed SPECIAL scissors – special more expensive scissors because don’t you know, lefties can’t use cheap scissors that are made for right handed people. I remember the welts from having to use right handed scissors. I decided I was game to give craft night a whirl and see what magic could be worked. Boy have we come a long way from right handed scissors!
We made two different crafts and I can honestly say I had fun. It helped that we were given step by step instructions and it DOUBLY helped that all the prep work was done. That’s what I hate the most – the tedious prep work. We made a wreath with paper rosettes and a notebook decorated with squares of paper and mod podged. My 5 year old daughter knows what mod podge is. Shock! She has a very crafty preschool teacher so I shouldn’t be all that shocked but good grief, I didn’t know what it was until our A. C. Moore Girls’ Night Out.
We learned about different techniques and adhesives, and were sent home with some fun goodies. Beacon Adhesives sent us home with about 7 different types of adhesives. It was really cool to learn they started out as a hat shellack company and adapted to the market as women stopped wearing hats so much. I have already used the different glues for different projects around the house that were in need of special types of glue.
We also learned about A. C. Moore’s summer fun and partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand. I was really excited to learn about this partnership. An already very important charity, several of our own Philly Social Media Moms are very involved with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, making it even more dear to my heart.
June 26 kicks off A. C. Moore’s Buy and Decorate craft. Bring your kids in to your local A. C. Moore from 1-3 on Wednesdays this summer for Buy and Decorate crafts. June 26 you can pay $1 for a canvas tote, and the kids can decorate the tote with an Alex’s Lemonade Stand theme. I am all about this. I am the boring mom who doesn’t like scraps of paper, globs of glue, and showers of glitter throughout my house. I can take them to A. C. Moore, and for just a few dollars they can craft to their little hearts’ content.
Stayed tuned for more posts on how this non-crafty crafter made the projects pictured in this article.

YEARS ago my girlfriends and I did classes at AC Moore and they were great. I’ve never thought to see what they have for the kids. I will have to check it out, thanks!
Heather says
Lots of fun things including birthday parties.

I love this wreath! What an awesome GNO and for a non-crafter, you did a great job!
Heather says
Thank you. That’s the fun of the classes! Show you how to do things you couldn’t do alone.

I’m a non-crafty person, too, but I LOVE crafts. I totally think I could make this wreath. Thanks for the idea!
Heather says
I still don’t care for the tedious prep work part but these ones where the prep work is done are loads of fun. Especially when they give a step by step.

Had lots of fun! Thank you. 🙂

Both crafts look beautiful! I need to add A.C. Moore to my summer activity list!

Definitely! We are planning to do some of their Wednesday crafts.

Encouraging post! Nice to find a fellow non-crafter who braved the event. I once went to a Mom Group where we had to make a complicated bracelet. Everyone whipped them into shape in no time, all worthy to be sold on Etsy. My project cut all the way into eating/mingling time and fell apart the minute I picked up my completed piece to put on. And yes, I got stares 🙁 Next time we’ll go together!
Heather says
Sounds like a plan! I can sympathize! I was also way behind this craft evening but I figured oh well. Plus you know how awesome our PSMM girls are.

I would never guess you weren’t a crafter after seeing that! I wish I could’ve joined you! And that I could steal that wreath! 🙂
Heather says
Guess I can’t give you my address. 😉 I point blank told them it would be a miracle if I pulled off either craft. That is how bad I usually am! We will have to schedule a crafting party somewhere between here and there.

Cool I am gonna have to visit!

Love how great your projects turned out! This event was so much fun!

Love all the ideas!

Before it started there is no way I thought I could do these things. The notebook is super easy and a great way to glam up a conference notebook.

What a cute wreath! I have been looking for something for the summer and making one like this would be perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Heather says
Aren’t they nice? I am so excited to have a wreath for my door. The paper roses are made using a machine that cuts them into spirals then you use this little slotted tool (it’s name) to twirl the paper spirals into ROSES. Super cool!
