Day #2 technically was “my” day. By that I mean it was a shopping day. I am twisted. I thoroughly enjoy food shopping. See, without a lot of “free” money, my main shopping is, well, food shopping. Food is a necessity so I can excuse this “love”.
We occasionally will take a Tuesday and hit the Bent and Dent in Quarryville and the Food Auction at Roots Market in Manheim. We were originally going to take the kids to a Regal $1 day movie but the morning wasn’t panning out like we planned it so we changed it up. I LOVE BB’s outlet (bent and dent). It’s like yard sale shopping except it’s food. Well, kind of. It is still set up like a normal store(ish). I have to say that my favorite thing is shopping for sauces there. I love to cook different/ethnic foods but it is so expensive. At BB’s I can fulfill those needs so much cheaper. You have to watch expiration dates, etc but if you are smart you can get some pretty awesome finds. I got Jarden’s peach salsa and one of their con quesos for .75 and 1.50. Think gourmet kitchen store – $7. I also got IN DATE sunscreen for $2.50. Perfect since we were running low and going to the shore yesterday. Ok, anyway, enough about that haha.
Next we headed to Roots Market for the food auction. Another thing I LOVE!!! It’s fun. I always end up with lots of things. Generally I get dozens of eggs for a fraction of the price. Most of them are fresher than the store and many times they are free range – no guarantees though. This week I got 3 dozen that were small(think really small, probably new layers) for .80 a dozen. I also got regular sized for 1.20 a dozen. These eggs seriously last me about 2 months that is how fresh they are!! I also got a lot of fresh veggies and fruit. You need to be picky about your choices because it ranges from fresh, picked out of the garden to on the edge of no return but I have always gotten my money’s worth.
Because this was a food shopping day we didn’t spend much vacation money.
Total: Dinner – $22.63
It was Kieran’s birthday so we did his favorite thing – went to the ocean. We went to Wildwood for the first time in 2 years. I remembered all over again why it is our favorite place to go. The trek to the beach is a bit long but I love it at Wildwood. The bay of either state is nice but it just isn’t the same. The totals for this day were for 6 people.
TOTAL: Dunkin Donuts, his breakfast request: 16.82
Parking: $5 (until 4 PM)
Swimsuit cover up + dress for Hanna: $10
Beach pails: $3.21 (Um, of course I found the $1 store on the Boardwalk)
2# fudge: 10.49 (ha, what kind of trip would it be if I didn’t stop at the yellow
candy shop on the boardwalk??!! Plus it is yummy AND
inexpensive- fudge is anyway)
TOTAL for the day: 63.98
TOTAL left for vacation: 37.23 I would say we are doing pretty well with our budget 🙂
