Yesterday I saw the sun. The frozen ground was starting to turn to mud. I grew excited. Is it springtime yet? But then this morning came along. Wind’s been howling all morning long. Guess it isn’t springtime yet. So what do you do when all you want is spring? With sunshine and flowers and birds that sing? You plan a garden (or gardens).
You plan a BIG garden. A garden full of flowers in bursts of color – purple pansies, yellow daffodils, soft petaled peonies and bold poppies- and a pretty bird bath. You plan a vegetable garden, overflowing with brilliant red tomatoes, plump green peppers, sprawling, vining squash plants, onion tops marching like little green soldiers, and overflowing rows of lettuce. You plot out your herb garden, with tall fuzzy lavender, polished purple and green basil, tall and sprawling dill, bushy clumps of oregano and parsley, and spiky chives with purple ball like flowers.
Then you sit and dream of sunshine days and springtime songs. You dream of laughter echoing through the yard, and mud – glorious MUD on your children’s clothes and shoes….and your beige carpet……how about we go back to dreaming about sunshine? And fluffy white clouds? And fresh lettuce from the garden. How about we dream of birds splashing in the bird bath and flowers dancing in a gentle warm breeze?
Sunshine and gardens, here I come. Even if, for the moment, it’s only in my dreams.
