My sister and I went peach picking earlier this week. Starting out it appeared it was going to be long and icky work but it only took 20 minutes to fill our half bushel box. Best local deal, by the way, is Highland Orchards, PYO (pick your own) half bushel box – $24.20.

Being expert peach pickers we searched for the perfect tree and the perfect peach……oh wait, that wasn’t us. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing except I read somewhere that the peach is ripe if the underlying color is white or yellow, not green. I think we got our colors a little off because these peaches aren’t completely ripe yet. The lady said we did good though. (whatever that means since we followed directions and they still aren’t all ripe after sitting on my counter for 2 or 3 days.

So, what do you do on a Saturday when your husband has to work? You can jam. Even though some peaches aren’t ripe yet, enough were that I could can some peach jam. I only made one batch but I am now the proud maker and owner of 8 itty bitty ( 4 oz.) jars of peach jam. I cannot wait to taste it.
