Is there something you have been looking for and COULD buy brand new but is ok used? Try “used” avenues first. I recently decided that a bread maker was something I needed. why do I NEED a bread maker? Well, I hate buying bread. Also, my husband is getting on board the “read a label” band wagon and he was appalled at what is in store bought bread. Mainly this happened because I said I hate buying bread and we needed some in a pinch so he went to buy it and thought he would check the label.
I don’t have TIME to make bread, so I NEED a breadmaker. It has been a need for 4 months and I priced them online. Not really in my budget right now. A friend was talking about hers and mentioned she got it on Freecycle. DUH!!! Light bulb moment.
Here’s what I did. I posted on Freecycle AND I messaged some of my bargain queen friends, saying, “hey, anyone have a bread machine they don’t use and want to sell? Interested for the right price.” My thought was that if I didn’t get any bites on Freecycle or maybe, even if I did, if I could help a friend clear out her “junk” and help her budget at the same time I was great with that. Well, I had a friend very graciously offer her bread maker to me for FREE. I am so grateful for it. It is AMAZING.
So, “need” or “want” some things? Next time check out-
Curbside trash picking (not my favorite)
You never know what you will find. Some things I have gotten:
6 Hotwheel track sets – Freecycle (those babies are expensive!!!)
4′ x 6′ mirror – lady I clean for was getting rid of it. Dave and I hauled it out for her 🙂 I just need to frame it. Same lady is planning to give me boys’ jeans since she missed the consignment sale she usually sells at all because we started talking about kids’ consignment sales
Bread machine – Thank you C. You rock.
Fisher Price kids slide – $3/$5 at Goodwill
2 Whiteboards – 2’x4′ and 6’x3′ plus some left over – DIY at Lowes for $13 – I will pay more when I get the stuff to frame the largest one but still, it won’t be bad at all
Clothes – My rule is that I never pay full price and I rarely ever have in the last 5 years. Clearance, Goodwill, Consignment sales, and hand me downs have worked out really well. The only concession is socks, underwear, and sneakers if I am desperate. Even with the shoes I check the clearance aisle first.
