Frugal Food Tip of the Week

Welcome to another frugal week. There’s this myth so many Americans buy into. That myth is that boxed processed foods are CHEAPER. Sure, in a few cases they are, but for the most part, would you believe they really aren’t that CHEAP, and certainly not that much easier to make than regular old food? Here’s the deal. Most boxed meals are large enough for 2-3 people when it comes right down to it. Maybe even 4 if you have 2 adults and 2 YOUNG kids. This means you have to buy double the box AND still need to buy your meat. Have you ever seen how small those pasta packets are in those boxes? For $1-$2 you can buy a whole box of pasta WITHOUT the added sodium, MSG, and really, other junk that takes a toll on your health.

Check out this chicken ziti casserole that is inexpensive, delicious, and easy. Part of it may come from a “box” still but it’s much healthier than that box with a hand on it, and believe it or not, it’s cheaper too.  For more great frugal tips for eating outside the box, check out this post with 40+ frugal tips and recipes.
