Are you ready to take on a 7 Days to Spring Cleaning Challenge? That’s right. We are decluttering our home in 7 days.

Declutter in 7 Days - Real: The Kitchen and Beyond

If you are a friend or frequent reader, you already realize that I am frugal. You may or may not also realize that I am a frequent thrift store shopper. I love how often I get comments on clothes, bags, or accessories I have gotten for super low prices. Sometimes I tell them my secret. Sometimes I don’t.

Even while shopping smart, I tend to collect things I thought I would wear or use, only to discover they sit unused in my closet, taking up space. With spring cleaning on my mind, I want to declutter my home, and the first place I think of donating is Goodwill. Who’s ready to join me on a #7DaystoSpringCleaning challenge?

Sometimes I laugh as I envision my “clean out” going back to the store it came from, but what better way? Since I no longer need it, why not send it back to the place I got such a good deal on it? That way it can be purchased by some one else who will love it and (hopefully) use it more than I did.

Even better, I like knowing that by donating my stuff, jobs are created in my area.  I love that Goodwill provides jobs for people who otherwise may not be able to get one. Now, are you ready to tackle your house and take on the #7DaystoSpringCleaning Challenge? Keep reading for my spring clean out list.

It’s time for me to put this plan into action and haul my excess off Goodwill. Oh, and when you donate, make sure you get a receipt. It’s tax deductible in many cases. You can even calculate the value of your donation on their website.

Spring Clean Out in 7 Days

Day 1: Old sheets, blankets, and towels – Animal shelters are always looking for these so check there before donating them to a thrift store.

Day 2: Cleaning supplies and medications – Are there cleaning supplies you bought and hate or little bits left in odd and end bottles? Consolidate or clean something. Check expiration dates on medications – How to get rid of old prescriptions and medications.

Day 3: Clothing – Yes, I know you want to lose weight and fit into that size 2 again. When you get there buy something new. You don’t need those clothes sitting there, wasting space.

Day 4: Kitchen – old dishes you don’t use, lids without matching containers, small appliances you always planned on using, gadgets that never get used, and old silverware. Say goodbye, my friend. It’s freeing.

Day 5: Bills, paperwork, and old vacuum manuals *ahem* – Just how long do you need to keep those old bills? Sort, sort, sort, and shred the old ones. Ah sweet relief. Mounds of paper put me over the edge.

Day 6: The storage area  – no storage area? Go clean some windows. Storage area? Yeah, that table you loved so much you couldn’t part with it … 10 years ago? Unless it’s a family heirloom or there are extenuating circumstances, imagine another family sitting happily around it. Donate or sell!

Day 7: The garage and car – Sort, get rid of stuff, and organize that garage! While you are at it, make sure there aren’t unnecessary (expired) insurance cards, etc. lurking in your car glove box. Really?!?! That was so 3 years ago.
