I love my Kindle. I can’t say enough “good stuff” about it. (Read to the end for what brought this post to life) I am an avid book reader but I simply do not have time or the ability to just up and go to the library. I also do not have the money to hit the bookstore whenever I wish(read, maybe once or twice a year).
With my Amazon Kindle I can download books in seconds, and best of all there are so many free books out there. I rarely need to pay for a book but can justify it occasionally with how much FREE I get. At $139 (the middle grade) It is totally worth it. There are downsides. Currently they aren’t compatible with the coding most libraries use. However, they are working on that and hope to be by year’s end (YAY!!) It also doesn’t have a touchscreen which would be cool.
The other issue is that they aren’t kid-safe. “Mom tested?” Yes. Kid safe? NO!!! Many of you already know my ongoing saga of the Kindle. Kindle 1, cracked and then fell and the button broke. Kindle replaced it!!! Not using my additional year warranty but the regular warranty. They were amazing about it. No lecture, no loopholes. Easy as I explained what happened, they mailed me a new one overnight.
Last week my daughter knocked Kindle 2 out of my hand. Shattered the inside of the screen. This leads to another thing I LOVE. No glass!! The surface of the screen was strong enough to keep shattered bits inside. Again, called them, this time expecting “How many times do you think we will replace this??!!!” Nope. No problem. Overnight again.
I was so happy to get Kindle 3 in the mail BUT I HAD to rename it. This one (was) The Replacement. How original. Well, I took it to the beach with me. Never took it out of the backpack though. I have no idea what happened but it froze and then kept rebooting to the quarter mark and freezing. I called Kindle. They were so awesome in helping me try to “fix” it. When it was apparent my Replacement was only going to repeatedly try rebooting itself with no help from me, they overnighted me Kindle 4 AND because it malfunctioned right after I got it they even gave me a $20 promotional credit. I didn’t fuss or ask for anything. They VOLUNTEERED it.
How is this frugal? I looked at all the options and chose Kindle because I felt Amazon had the least likelihood of going out of business and taking my digital material with them. I also saw the amount of low cost and free books they had to offer. When you pair that with the amazing customer service they have (FOUR KINDLES!!!! and friendly staff) it was the best financial decision I could have made. If I was searching for an e-reader again I would definitely choose Kindle.
You can find Kindles here.
DISCLAIMER: I told my husband I wanted a Kindle. He was so sweet and bought it for Christmas so I didn’t make the actual purchase. Also, Amazon Kindle in no way has paid me to review this product.
