As I mentioned in a vacation post, we went to a food auction on Tuesday. There are several that auction food in PA. The one I go to every few months is Roots Market and Auction.
Tuesday I bought:
Tomatoes – $4.75 – I got 6.5 qt. tomato sauce (or 8.67 jars)
7 dzn. eggs – $6.80
12# baby carrots – $7.25
Sweet potato fries – 5.75 – LOSS – By the time I got to them the next AM something
on the surface of them molded. UGH!!!
50# Potatoes – $9
12 – 3# bags organic red delicious – $7
Broccoli, pre cut and washed – $3.25 – 6 #
3 Watermelon, seedless – $3.75
3 Bx. Snyder’s Pretzels – 2.25 (.75 ea.)
Cabbage – $4 – I got 4# shredded, 1 3# (ish) head, and 6 # chopped out of it
6 broccoli/carrots – 12 oz. snack pack bags – $3
My total was $56.80
I generally would pay $110.77 for the products that were use-able – and that’s is at the prices I generally can get them for, lower than grocery. Generally it would be over a period of time instead of 1 trip. Even adding $20 for gas, which we usually don’t figure in because of the fact that it is a special family day and otherwise I make a special trip for veggies/fruit that costs $5 in gas, I still had a great savings and now a fuller freezer. Next time I will buy sweet potatoes and make my own sweet potato fries. It was just a great deal that would save me time if it had panned out.
