For years I have had the old blue roaster. You know the cheap oval roaster of years gone by? The one that has a tree shaped groove in the bottom, is a pain to scrub and never fits the larger bird because it is much more oval than a turkey would ever be? Yeah, I was excited to throw that sucker away when Calphalon sent me this beautiful roaster set from the Calphalon Contemporary Line. I contemplated keeping it as a planter but I am pretty sure my husband would have revolted at one more crazy planter.
This is just the roaster I would have chosen if I was choosing my own roaster. I have eyed this roaster for a while but just hadn’t made the leap yet. I was especially excited about it because when you buy this roaster you get the whole deal. You get a beautiful non-stick roaster, rack, those beasts of forks, and a baster. I do adore a good baster. This one is a beauty. No cheap plastic, it is stainless steel and comes with an injector piece. I have always wanted to try injecting meat and this was an added bonus. No more “forgetting” to get the injector to try it.
The roaster is made to go from oven to stove top so you can make your gravy right in the roasting pan. No messy greasy transfer – voila, gravy in the pan. Everyone knows that a huge turkey dinner makes massive amounts of dishes so who wouldn’t be happy with one less pan to clean? Even better, this roaster is dishwasher safe so pop it in the dishwasher and call it a day. Before I pulled the roaster out of the box I was slightly worried it wouldn’t be “pan” enough for my massive turkey but it held it beautifully and fit in my oven with no problem.
I know I can’t credit a roaster pan for my turkey being done perfectly but it sure did make the job easier.
