We were sent a kids’ CD to review – “I’m So Glad” by Philly’s own Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band. I love the chance to review products and they are even more special when they are made by local people. There is an extra special connection there. I guess maybe it is because the places that are mentioned – where the person grew up, went to school, performs, etc. are places we know. What’s better than getting to review a copy? I am also able to offer one of my reader’s their own CD.

One of my favorite things through my whole life has been music. My life was one big constant change after another but there was always music in some shape or form. I love all sorts of music and want my kids to love all sorts of music, or at least tolerate all sorts of music. I was so excited when we got this CD with all the “flavors” of music compiled together to make a really great kid mix.

My daughter is in love with this music. She is a little dancer and every time we get a new CD she dances her heart out. She calls this CD “that fun music”. Full of fun and upbeat songs, Alex and the Kaleidoscope Band provide the perfect dance party music. The lyrics are entertaining and sometimes amusing, drawing you in past the beat. Don’t take just my word for it though. They have won 16 national awards, including 2012 Parent’s Choice Award for “I’m So Glad“, the CD that YOU have a chance to win!

Currently you can order their CDs for $8 each at their website. That is a great deal and an awesome stocking stuffer idea for kids up to around age 10. It’s also a great “time filler” for those long car rides to visit family for the holidays. Order the CD and pull it out on your trip to buy yourself a little peaceful time. My kids quietly listened the first time around, trying to see what the songs were about. They are quite split on which songs they prefer.

Alex is no stranger to kids’ music. He has performed and taught since 2000, during which time he has taught at the Princeton Montessori School for children, produced 5 kids’ CDs, and tours the country. Along with that, in the grown up world,  he is a faculty member of the University of the Arts and The Princeton Center for Teacher Education.

My favorite songs are “Water Lily” and “I’m So Glad” but I also LOVE the song “Snow Day”, from another CD of theirs. You can download Snow Day for free HERE (through December 31, 2012).
