I’ve been planning a trip to Washington, DC this week to see a friend who is visiting from Kentucky. You can do the calculations but it isn’t very difficult to figure out that DC is much closer to Philly then Kentucky is to Philly, right? The other evening she emailed me and said “Hey, if you can make it Thursday, Emeril Lagasse is doing a book signing.”
I immediately thought of my 11 year old who has been a fan of Emeril since he was around 18 months old. I think the thing that grabbed him first was the whole, “BAM!” He would laugh so hard every time. To this day every time any one mentions Emeril Lagasse his ears perk up and he says, “Oh, I LOVE him!”
However, this week is also VBS at our church and it is called Spy Academy. Being a spy is on this kid’s short list of professions so he has to miss a day of Spy Academy or miss Emeril. He debated long and hard. Spy Academy is a ‘once in a lifetime experience” for an eleven year old apparently.
When I told him there was a potential opportunity to meet Emeril Lagasse, I kid you not, this child said, “Oh, I bet you can get me in to meet him sometime.” Flattering but “child, I’m not really quite sure how you think I rate but it’s not that high.”
To which he replied, “Well, maybe I can get me in to meet him.” Yeah, uh-huh. Super easy. With that it was no question. He was going to Washington, DC in hopes of meeting Emeril Lagasse.
Operation ‘Meet Emeril Lagasse’ commences at 6:00 AM. Ready for the adventure? Follow us on Instagram to see if his dream becomes a reality. I can’t wait to tell him he gets to choose a book to get signed. Which book do you think he will choose? We’ll see what the options are!
