In honor of 12 years of marriage I thought I would share 12 frugal dates. Not having a lot of money for quite a few of our  2 years of dating and 12 years of marriage, we have had to get creative. Frugal doesn’t mean no fun and often times, not spending big bucks means you actually feel a little more care-free.

12 #frugal dates to help keep your love alive

  • If you have kids send them to grandma’s house or swap kid sitting hours with a friend then have a nice dinner at home. Make it together and enjoy the quiet time together in your own home.
  • Miniature golf – inexpensive and fun. You get to laugh together, be competitive together, and if you stink at it, no big deal. Choose one with fun obstacles.
  • Bowling – have fun bowling a game or 2 – just the two of you. If you can swing a week day even better as it is super quiet.
  • Rent a few movies, get movie theater popcorn, boxes of candy and your favorite drink.
  • Go for a hike. If you don’t like bugs and hiking, not the best option. Odds are it may turn into a fight.
  • Keep an eye on Groupon, Living Social, and other deal sites. Sometimes they offer classes for two. Try something NEW since I’m in a rhyming mood.
  • Picnic for 2 – all you need is a picnic lunch and a tablecloth or blanket. Go to a local park and relax. Might want to remember the bug spray.
  • Fondue party at home – melting chocolate, fruit, pound cake, whatever you wish. Add a few candles and some quiet music or your favorite playlist of songs the two of you love.
  • Go out for coffee – find a quiet place to chat and re-connect but don’t talk about the kids…much.
  • Watch a matinee or if it’s summer, go to one of Regal theaters $1 days. You can even get popcorn and still come in cheap.
  • Take a walk on Main St. or a city near you- window shop, stop into little shops and browse. You never know what treasures you will find.
  • Yard sale, antique or consignment sale shop – have a budget and have fun finding treasures
